Another reason why I've wanted to go to Africa is to volunteer. My church in Santa Monica, St. Monica, has a sister parish in Dandora, Kenya. Dandora is a slum outside Nairobi. St. Monica's is constantly raising money and supplies to support this poor community on the other side of the world. I was able to bear witness through many presentations by priests from Kenya who visited with their stories and through fellow parishioners that travelled to Kenya to the amazing good that was done with so little. I was inspired that just a small effort really can change the lives of others in a big way.
So, here I am... in a huge state of transition. Waiting to hear about grad school. Working freelance. No real responsibilities. Now's the time, right? So here I go!
I am going to volunteer in the town of Moshi in Tanzania for six weeks. I am going with the organization Cross Cultural Solutions. I leave March 27th.
After six weeks in Moshi, I am going to meet my mom in Nairobi and we are going to go on safari for 10 days.
And of course, is an adventure really an adventure if you don't blog about it?? I think not. I will record my experiences, photos and videos here so you can all follow me on my journey. "Hujambo" is the traditional Swahili greeting - like "how's it going?" or "how are you?" So that is the name of this blog.
This will be the experience of a lifetime... and I can't wait!
