Hello! I am so happy that I can finally post something! So, after the crazy flight debacle I finally made it to Tanzania. I landed in Kili around 9am and met the CCS driver who took me to the home base. I was sort of delirious - even though I spent the night in Howard's guest house (the safari outfitter that has been planning the trip for me and my mom in May), I didn't sleep too much becuase I was afraid I would miss my flight. Anyway, I got to the home base and was surprised at how nice it was. Its not fancy, but will be a quite comfortable home for the next six weeks. It is a gated compound with two houses and a covered patio area with two loooong tables. We eat all our meals and have our group meetings on the covered patio. One of the houses has the program offices in it and then volunteer rooms and a living room. The other house has a nice porch and then a bigger living room, the kitchen and then volunteer rooms -- including mine! I have somehow ended up with my own room. Its the smallest room in either of the houses, but there are still 5 beds in there! They had only assigned two of us to the room, but since I wasn't there the first night (thank you again KLM) the girl that was there was afraid to stay alone so she moved. At first i was going to move in with some other girls, but I was too exhausted to move my stuff and now I feel like I will be glad to have my own room in a few weeks!
Once everyone got back orientation began. We've had all sorts of briefings, tours, Swahili lessons and everything. I will have to fill you in on all of that later though b/c the power just went out in the internet cafe. My computer will die in approx. 2 mins. Crap! Well, at least you know that I am alive. I will try to come back tomorrow and finish this up! There is so much to share - my placement, the other volunteers and our plans for safari, ect.
xoxo
